Typical investigations in which Haymarket may become involved include:
  - Collusive procurement and/or contract
fraud where a buyer accepts kickbacks to     ensure orders are placed with a supplier or     contractor with which he/she is in     collusion
  - Sales lead diversions (where a Sales     Director or Manager may have an     undisclosed financial interest in a     competitor company to which he/she is     passing sales leads)
  - Theft of equipment or assets
  - Fictitious purchases by a company     employee using bogus invoices which     he/she signs off for payment
  - Information theft or leakage
  - Cheque diversion and conversion
  - Wire transfer fraud
Plus investigations involving many other types of fraud which occur in private as well as public sector organisations.

If a company suspects it is being defrauded then it is vital that a covert investigation is started without delay. This is necessary to protect the innocent as well as to identify the perpetrators. This initial covert action will quickly establish whether the suspicions are correct, to identify all parties involved and to assimilate evidence for use in interview and any subsequent proceedings. By confronting a suspect prematurely, without this vital first step, invariably results in vital evidence being lost and if handled inappropriately may give rise to litigation.

Haymarket is expert at handling the vital early stages of covert investigation, leading to investigative interviews with witnesses and suspects, and assimilating all evidence to facilitate Criminal and/or Civil proceedings.

Haymarket encourages clients to assign appropriate staff (usually the Head of Corporate Security and/or a member of the Internal Audit staff) to work alongside our specialist investigators. This has the dual effect of minimising consultancy costs whilst sharing the experience of Haymarket's proven investigative techniques with client staff.

In most major investigations it becomes necessary to make applications to the Courts for legal orders, which can assist in the recovery process. Haymarket has experience of the various Civil Orders that are available in all UK jurisdictions and will liase with appointed lawyers at the appropriate time to ensure that the optimum use is made of available remedies.

Because the Stock Control Manager was involved in the fraud he had been able to successfully manipulate records to deceive the auditors.

Example

Haymarket was called in to work with the Internal Audit team of a financial services group, which suspected that a Building Services Manager was taking kickbacks from suppliers, in return for awarding contracts. A covert investigation revealed that the suspect was living a lifestyle beyond his means, and that he had amassed a portfolio of investment properties.

Applications were made to the Courts for Search and Seize Orders on the private residence of the suspect and the private and business premises of three external suppliers. Documents recovered demonstrated how the suspect had signed off huge overspends on building costs in return for properties, which were purchased for him.

Example

A client received information that pallets of high value raw materials were being systematically stolen from its warehouse. Haymarket was called in to investigate. Covert video cameras were placed at strategic points in the warehouse and the culprits were caught on video loading pallets on to a delivery lorry.

Haymarket's surveillance team tracked the suspect vehicle and videoed the pallets as they were then unloaded into a warehouse. At the appropriate time the Police were contacted, warrants obtained and the pallets recovered. A number of people were charged with thefts going back over five years.
