Ian Bennett is a Senior Consultant with over 30 years of experience as an investigator.

His career as an investigator began with 13 years in the British Army’s elite Special Investigation Branch. During this time Ian investigated and led investigation teams dealing with a spectrum of serious criminal offences, major incidents and crisis management. Ian received numerous commendations for the quality of his work and investigation management.

Immediately following his military service, Ian took up a position with an international corporate intelligence and investigation company, where he worked on cases for a variety of corporate and lawyer clients. His main focus was on fraud and intellectual property infringement investigations and investigative due diligence in connection with mergers and acquisitions and large supplier contracts.

Subsequently Ian became a Senior Security Advisor with a U.S. owned international financial services company. He was responsible for security and investigation services, including the prevention, detection and investigation of fraud and other criminal activities against the organisation. He developed and implemented specialist security policies and procedures that included pro-active methods leading to the identification, reduction and recovery of financial losses. Other key areas of his role included risk assessment reviews, fraud awareness training, investigative due diligence and improvement of pre-employment screening procedures.

Immediately before joining Haymarket, Ian was an Investigator with the Independent Police Complaints Commission where he undertook a number of high profile and sensitive criminal and misconduct investigations. During this period, he obtained the Portsmouth University Accredited Investigators Certificate. He also received high quality best practice training in case management systems, forensic and exhibit management and covert human intelligence source control and handling.

With Haymarket, Ian has investigated cases of complex fraud, commercial sabotage, contract fraud and intellectual property infringement. Recent matters he has dealt with include: fraud and corruption within a sporting organisation; investigative due diligence in connection with proposed acquisitions by venture capitalists; the identification of European distribution channels for a particular brand of counterfeit goods; and gathering intelligence and evidence to prove suspicions of industrial espionage against a UK client company.
